Brain Aid- Exhibition Opening

That's right amigos, next Wednesday September 26, we're holding the first Brain Aid - life as we know it, art exhibition. Thanks to Community Hart, Black Coffee Lyrics, and This Is A Plain Tee (Cubic Collective) for helping to support and guide Brain Aid, but most importantly to the talented individuals whom have demonstrated interest into this unique project. As Brain Aid was inspired by David Montoya, a very creative and passionate individual, this event will be a celebration to the many creative folk out there doing what they love to do, make art! And we look forward to sharing this special evening with you all!

To make this even more special, contributions and donations raised through Brain Aid will be directed to Scott Trevelyan- Willowbank Studio. Scott is an ABI survivor himself and has established a space to support other people with brain injuries through art therapy, by facilitating workshops free of charge.  Have a look at his website for his full story and artwork scott-trevelyan.com Thank you Scott.
Much Love
Daniel

Farewell: Gone but not forgoten

In good company, and with omens regulating.

After a long struggle and a good fight, David died peacefully on Sunday 22 January, 2012. There is a degree of significance to all moments of our lives. David valued and believed it so, that they manifested in the world around him ’til his very last day. Symbolic birds, calendar dates, the weather, the new moon and the friends who gathered to share in Dave's final dance gives reason to celebrate his life more so.
It rained for nearly two weeks. While it gave reason to mourn, rain is symbolic of nourishing new beginnings, helping to water the seeds that he helped sow so that someone could bear their fruits. Even if through learning through our mistakes.
This is why we will continue to support creatively inspired projects like BRAIN AID-life as we know it, which is aimed to help and better understand loved ones in need, and our role in supporting them. Finding that they give us meaning and purpose, and that we honour their memory through a continuation of our good deeds and most importantly, our way of living. Of course the proceeds of the event will be going to other charitable causes and or individuals but is still yet to be decided.

This last year David had experienced buckets of hardship, pain and suffering; all due a series of unfortunate events. Of course he didn't dwell on these, so neither did we. I ask myself if that was such a wise idea, as in not sharing the full experience of David's journey. I guess that was for those closest to him to experience and know. Everyone else that knew him, or knew of him, got something just as special.

Some words from the ceremony:

'David possessed a wisdom beyond his years. His truths lay in his actions; his Humility, his Creativity, his Compassion, his Humour, and his Love. An inspired and pure soul, his consciousness and virtue will remain forever in his peace, and in the hearts of those who love him.'

'Take the time to make everyone you meet happy that you were there. The easy way to do this is to just be interested in them; to make them feel good about who they are. When you do this, people will defend you with their very life, because you gave them something that they could not give themselves; appreciation.' Rod C

Brain Aid!

Hello All!

Things have been rough over the last few months, so while and until I compose a decent and thoughtful blog entry, here is the latest on the fundraising support.
The fundraising artistic competition calls for;

'budding or established artists to submit their interpretation of the human brain'

We're excited to be a part of this little project. Mainly because they're interests David was and is very passionate about: the artistic interpretation portrayed onto something as simple as canvas and then getting it onto a tee-shirt. So simple. And of course the theme being totally related to David's case and cause. Please read up on This is a Plain Tee for more info on the concept and the project.

Thanks to Julia and Andy at This is a Plain Tee for getting on board and basically taking charge of the whole operation. And to the gentlemen at Black Coffee Lyrics for instigating and thinking proactive.

Thanks for the thoughts and the prayers.
Keep well and we hope to see some more friendly faces in the new year.

Daniel.

Good News & Salsa Night!

Hola Amigos,

This update is a mix bag relating to both Dave's progress and Amigo's fundraising efforts.
I'm happy to say that Dave was overjoyed in receiving the kind birthday wishes via facebook and more importantly with the friendly faces that have stopped by to say hello, digital or not. Since being back at home, Dave has started again with Dr. Burzynski's Antineoplaston treatment. And minus the month long hospital visit in Houston, we came home with good results from his last scan. There was close to 20 per cent reduction of his tumor! Ecstatic and joyous news we'll proceed with caution as his U.S hospitalization was due to pressure and fluid in the brain and not the tumor itself. With this in mind we'll make efforts to do what we can so that Dave can continue fighting for his ultimate goal; to regain a healthy life.

Our other priority of course is financial stability. Here the Amigos crew continue to organise fundraising events. Proceeding the Zumba event, next month's fundraiser will be 'The Amigo's Salsa Night'. It will be an evening coordinated by family and friends that helped organise last year's 'Latin BBQ in the Park'. On Saturday, August 13, you'll find us at Parkwood-Arundel Community Centre with food, music, drinks dancing and more dancing. Thanks again to the amigos involved and we're looking forward to a fun filled cultural fundraising event!
